A Proposal to Resolve All Conflict over the G&S by Faithfulness to the Lord

There is an approach to resolving whatever disputes may possibly exist with respect to the Guide and Standard that is faithful to the Lord in both word and deed: try an experiment upon the word of God and believe and do exactly what the Lord commands us all to do in The Rock of Jesus Christ: A Statement of Our Principles.  The Lord promises: "[W]hosoever believeth on my words, them will I visit with the manifestation of my Spirit; and they shall be born of me, even of water and of the Spirit" (D&C 5:16).

To believe on (trust in, or rely upon) his words it is necessary to obey them.  Therefore, do these things which he has asked, without fail so long as you have power to obey.

*Love your enemies.
*Do good things to those who hate you.
*Bless those that curse you.
*Pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you by exploiting your obedience to these commandments.
*If anyone hits you on one cheek, turn the other cheek to them without reviling.
*If anyone takes your cloak, don't tell them they can't have your coat.
*Give to every person that asks of you.
*Do not ask for your stuff back from any man who takes it from you.
*Whatever you want people to do to you, do exactly those things to them.
*Lend, hoping you aren't paid back.
*Be baptized by water by one of heaven's sent servants to show both men and heaven that you believe God's words and will do them.

This is the path of Christ.  Let us take as long as we need as a people until we are each doing all these things faithfully and equally, as he has asked of us: "Each of you must equally walk truly in my path, not only to profess, but also to do as you profess" (A&C, p. 3).

Then we will be of one mind with God and his Christ, as Joseph taught,"being filled with the fulness of the Mind of the Father, or, in other words, the Spirit of the Father: which Spirit is shed forth upon all who believe on his name and keep his commandments: and all those who keep his commandments shall grow up from grace to grace, and become heirs of the heavenly kingdom, and joint heirs with Jesus Christ; possessing the same mind, being transformed into the same image or likeness, even the express image of him who fills all in all: being filled with the fulness of his glory, and become one in him, even as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one" (Lectures on Faith 5:2).

Then we will all see eye-to-eye and know that the Lord's doctrine, his law and commandments, his gospel, is the Lord's guide and standard.

  1. Well this is new Jared......good to see your novel approach :/

    1. TBM: Makes sense that we should all live the quoted Sermon and doctrine? Or makes sense that by so doing we will all suddenly come to unity surrounding Log's G&S as the Lord's true choice?

One of those makes sense, the other kind of doesn't. There are already people attempting to live the quoted doctrine and scriptures but who do not see eye to eye on Log's G&S.

The author’s public ultimatum is that only the author's G&S can be adopted or else he has stated the body will be destroyed. His positions, per him, are permanent. I think we should be free to live the Sermon quoted without predictions and obligations that we’ll assuredly agree with (only) the author’s G&S by the end…. Or else face destruction.

  3. Come and try an experiment upon the words of Jesus Christ, for all that he commands is possible to those that believe him. Those who will do as he commands with full purpose of heart, acting no deception and no hypocrisy before him, can be of one heart and of one mind by his power and shall be if they endure faithfully in his path, according to his promises.

What other destination is more desireable than the Lord's presence? What other guide should we wish for than the Lord? What other standard should we want to be measured against than the Lord?

  4. I guess what I'd want to know regarding your proposal is this: Should people enact this proposal, (which hopefully they are already trying to do) are you ok with people not arriving at the same conclusion as you regarding the G&S? Legitimate statements in some of the other G&S proposals are viewed as coming from the Lord too. So they too would be choosing the same destination and carrying the same wishes for the Lord as their guide as you are.

If you intend to maintain your same G&S position, which is that you will not, and will never conceded to any other but the one you put forward, then I'm left uncertain how this proposal addresses the current dilemma.

Please correct me if I have misstated anything. If we as a body all decided to deliberately live the sermon you quoted for a season before revisiting the G&S topic, with no strings attached, and no preconceived ideas as to what the G&S outcome would look like at the end, then I'd be on board.

  5. Taylor,

  6. Taylor,

If you believe we will be born of Christ, as he said, and become of the same mind, through keeping the commandments of Jesus Christ - the Sermon on the Mount - as Joseph taught, then this proposal addresses how we come to a unity on our guide and standard while remaining faithful to the Lord.

With a new heart and obtaining the mind of God, we will be unified - and it is done through keeping the commandments of Christ as he gave in the Sermon.

  7. "There is enough revealed in the Book of Mormon to tell you what you must do to become part of His people. You don’t need me, or a program, or a leader, other than Christ. He has offered the opportunity for each of us to become part of His people."

  8. I just entered this blog today. As I read the proposal by Log (Jared) it would contain the Lord's statement of the Doctrine of Christ and the Lord's commandments as given at the Sermon on the Mount. What is the question about that as a proposal?
Isn't this to be a proposal we all agree on? What is the disagreement with Jared's proposal? I too submitted a proposal in Sept, it was the Lord's summary of the Sermon at Bountiful as found in 3 Nephi 14:12, called the Golden Rule. That is what the Spirit whispered to me, the Lord's own words which He obviously considered paramount for His children.
